  • Subaru is sponsoring free adoptions at Haven Humane Society through October 31; adoptable animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and chipped—adopters pay only the city license fee.  KQMS

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pit River Tribe is marking the anniversary of the Four Corners Occupation today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Highways 299 and 89 near McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park—where the tribe honors indigenous rights and works to reclaim its ancestral lands by partnering with Congressman Doug LaMalfa and the Western Rivers Conservancy.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Redding Public Works Engineering crews have started installing new overhead street lights at 18 intersections as part of a $632,937.22 project funded by a state grant and a city match. The work will run weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-December — motorists are advised to drive carefully in the affected areas.  Record Searchlight

  • The Sundial Bridge in Redding was lit pink on Thursday, Oct. 16 for the NorCal Think Pink Resource Fair—an event to raise awareness for breast cancer.  KRCR

  • Titus Andrus of the Pleasant Valley Vikings went head to head with Ashden Wehbey of the Red Bluff Spartans for Play of the Week honors in Week Eight of Under the Lights yesterday — the contest showcased their standout skills.  Action News Now
  • Late Redding Reach flight nurse Suzie Smith's family attended a team dinner at Foothill High School and were honored as captains—marking the Cougars' first game since the October 6 helicopter crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento that took her life.  Action News Now
  • On Friday night, the Pleasant Valley Vikings defeated the Chico High Panthers 16-7 in the 2025 Almond Bowl — ending the Panthers’ six-game win streak while the Vikings improved to a 3-3 record.  Action News Now
