🎭 Culture
Redding Roots Revival returns Friday, Sept.
11 and Saturday, Sept. 12 in downtown with over a dozen artists performing at a music festival. The event — which honors first responders with a 9/11 ceremony on Friday — is free on Friday but requires tickets on Saturday.
Axiom Repertory Theatre will reopen on Oct.
2 with The Rocky Horror Show nearly two years after an electrical fire closed its doors on Oct. 30, 2024 (repair work addressed sprinkler water damage) (community support helped keep productions going during the closure).
📰 Economy
City officials announced a $7.9 million grant to extend Venture Parkway at Stillwater Business Park — a move expected to open new parcels for business expansion and job creation.
Bids will be invited with construction set to start by summer 2027.
🎓 Education
Shasta County Office of Education will host an Open House at 1644 Magnolia Avenue on Sept.
30 (sessions run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.). The event offers a school bus tour, hands-on planetarium and Passport to SCOE activity with light refreshments.
🌲 Environment
Forest landowners in Shasta and nearby counties can register for a UC Cooperative Extension workshop series on forest health and wildfire resilience starting Sept.
16 with weekly online sessions and a field day on Oct. 4; the $75 fee includes materials and, if completed, a free local forester site visit.
🏛️ Government
The California Welcome Center in Anderson will close after business on Sept.
30. The facility has served visitors for nearly 30 years.
The Shasta Environmental Alliance will host a forum for Redding City Council candidates at Pilgrim Congregational Church on Foothill Boulevard in West Redding on Oct.
1 at 6:00 p.m. Audience members can submit questions ahead of time.
The U.S. Forest Service announced that research facilities including one in the Hat Creek area of Eastern Shasta and another in Butte County will close soon.
The agency said no jobs will be lost immediately.
🏥 Health
Dr. Gary Buxa of Redding's ENT Center of Excellence warned that a shift from rainy chill to heat can trigger allergy and sinus symptoms.
He recommends using nasal steroids and air purifiers at home — measures that may help as fall viruses begin to appear.
🏈 Sports
Redding Pickleball Club plans an indoor facility on Lake Boulevard near Raley’s + Grange Co-op with eight fenced courts, two golf simulators, a lounge, pro shop and lockers.
The membership club will open next year as a consistent option for players to enjoy play in any weather.
Central Valley football star Jonathan Horst, who recorded over 100 receiving yards in consecutive games, and Foothill volleyball standout Quinn Kacalek, who achieved a career-best 19 kills in one match, were named the Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for Aug.
30-Sept. 5.
