COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Park officials announced that Caper Acres in Lower Bidwell Park will close from Monday to Thursday to repair the padded surface of the Nico Project Pirate Ship play area — the park is expected to reopen to guests after maintenance.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The NTSB report blamed the Skycrane crew’s decision to fly too high for a mid-air collision in 2023 that killed Air Shasta pilot Tony Sousa—along with two Cal Fire officials—and led Cal Fire to plan enhanced pilot training and new safety measures.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A teacher at Pacheco School District was placed on administrative leave after posting a controversial comment on social media about Charlie Kirk's murder — Superintendent Jake Fuller stated the post does not align with district values and that legal counsel and union representatives are reviewing the matter.  Action News Now
  • A Pacheco School District employee was placed on administrative leave after posting remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk's shooting death on Sept. 10 — the superintendent said the comments do not reflect district values — and the matter is under review with legal counsel involved.  Record Searchlight
  • Trustee Jessica French did not sign a board statement condemning political violence issued on September 10 -citing a rushed process- and said she was not given enough time to review details like the inclusion of Charlie Kirk’s name and a call for prayer. She expressed sadness on Facebook over Kirk’s murder -without fully endorsing the letter- during the meeting.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Redding Police Department and Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office honored female officers on Friday, September 12 in celebration of National Police Woman Day—local agencies praised the dedication and strength of women serving law enforcement.  KRCR
  • County officials approved plans on September 9 to have staff gather details for an Amity Foundation reentry facility on Eastside Road—this facility may offer 100 beds divided between jail inmates and state prisoners while providing job training, GED classes, and health services. The board also will review funding sources to support the project.  ShastaScout

HEALTH NEWS

  • Redding Recreation has started American Red Cross CPR and First Aid courses for ages 13+ to meet rising emergency preparedness demand in Northstate — the program offers classes for adults, children, and infants with three new sessions each month and an upcoming pet first aid course available online.  KRCR
  • Today, Vitalant is holding a blood drive at the City of Redding Community Room on Cypress Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.—officials say every donation this month includes a free hemoglobin A1C test.  Action News Now
