- ➤ Good News Rescue Mission has unveiled a seven-step plan to help roughly 700 homeless individuals with substance use disorders by offering street outreach, a day resource center, and treatment programs (with key facilities opening in September 2026 and later). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Redding Area Bus Authority is switching its 16 diesel buses to a blend of 80% petroleum diesel and 20% recycled biodiesel to cut CO2 emissions by 15% without modifying engines. It also uses three electric buses and will use grant funds to expand its eco-friendly lineup. KQMS
- ➤ The United States Forest Service will carry out ten prescribed burns (over 250 acres) in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest starting Monday, Dec. 22. The burns will affect areas in Shasta and Trinity Counties. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency announced it received a $250,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety today to fund education on impaired driving for teens and young adults. The grant will support community events (school programs, social media campaigns, and outreach) through September 2026. Action News Now
- ➤ Facing approaching rain in the Northstate, the CHP advises drivers to use headlights, check windshield wipers and tire pressure, and slow down to avoid hydroplaning. They also recommend keeping a safe following distance and carrying emergency supplies (like water and snacks) in a bag. KRCR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County health officials are offering free suicide prevention training for community members beginning February 2026. The program, provided by You Matter Shasta & Lotus Educational Services, includes a four-hour session & a two-day training in April to help identify risk & connect individuals to support. KRCR
