EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Mountain Union and Whitmore Elementary in northeastern Shasta County will merge after the upcoming Spring semester (per Superintendent Tony Moebes) to address declining enrollment; busing and curricula remain unchanged. Plans include converting Montgomery Creek campus into an administrative hub and turning Whitmore's homeschooling program into a hybrid charter school. KRCR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Forest Service will conduct prescribed burns in Shasta-Trinity National Forest today through Friday to reduce vegetation and lower wildfire risk — officials say some areas may close for safety, with possible smoke affecting local roads. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Greg Hawes did not appeal to shut down Nash Ranch’s annual haunted house attraction — he wanted the county to enforce rules equally. The planning commission denied his appeal at the Dec. 11 meeting and he is considering legal action, even as both farms continue hosting popular seasonal events. Record Searchlight
