ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ California gas prices dropped for the second week on Monday, Dec. 8 — falling to $4.27 per gallon from $4.36 last week — according to the Energy Information Administration, with prices nearly 45% above the national average of $2.94 per gallon. Record Searchlight
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Whitmore Elementary School District and Mountain Union School District will merge into one district, according to the Shasta County Office of Education — the merger is not expected to significantly affect school budgets, but the office will lose $358,000 per year in state funding. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Redding Area Bus Authority has begun using B20 biodiesel in its 16 diesel buses to lower carbon emissions by 15% and support cleaner air in Shasta County. The agency plans to monitor performance and expand its use of renewable fuels and electric vehicles over the next seven years. Action News Now
- ➤ RABA will replace four of its oldest diesel buses with hybrid low-emission buses after receiving a $2.6M federal grant; the new buses are expected in about a year to improve air quality and reduce noise in Shasta County. KRCR
