COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redding is glowing with festive holiday lights displays tonight in neighborhoods from Shasta Lake to Cottonwood. Homes are competing in contests—with top honors going to Lucerne Court—and a map is available to help plan your tour + guide you to these dazzling sites.  Record Searchlight
  • The Redding Rancheria Community Fund awarded more than $89K in grants to 35 nonprofits across Shasta and Trinity counties to support local cultural, historic and educational projects. The fund has invested over $4.6M in community causes since 2002.  Action News Now
  • Redding firefighter Bob Diaz won a Disney World trip on Wheel of Fortune, which includes airfare, hotel, and park passes for his family. Diaz celebrated his win with a watch party attended by his wife and three young children.  KRCR
  • First 5 Shasta held an open house and holiday party at its Redding office on Wednesday, Dec. 10 to thank local partners and launch the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program that provides free monthly books to children until they turn five.  KRCR
  • Due to tule fog reducing visibility, Redding Regional Airport experienced several flight delays and cancellations on Dec. 10. Airport manager Andrew Solsvig said poor weather impacted operations.  Action News Now
  • Willy, a miniature long-haired dachshund from Montague, was named California’s Farm Bureau’s 2025 Farm Dog of the Year — he now works with his owner Marshall Hagedorn on ranch tasks across Shasta, Tehama and Siskiyou counties.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Whitmore Elementary and Mountain Union School Districts will merge on July 1, 2027 for smoother curriculum and improved staffing + both school boards will continue governing until a new five-member board is elected in November 2026.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The TSA at Redding Regional Airport announced that starting Feb. 1, 2026, travelers without a California Real ID will be charged a $45 fee covering 10 days of travel + officials warn extra delays may occur, and the DMV suggests applying online early.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shasta County HHSA specialist Makaylah Fazzari said Wednesday's fog reduced daylight in Redding, which may have worsened Seasonal Affective Disorder symptoms in residents (she urged those with severe signs to seek professional help).  KRCR

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • In 2026, residents will see a total lunar eclipse on March 3, two supermoons on Nov. 24 and Dec. 23, and 11 meteor showers including the Perseids in August and Geminids in December. Experts advise finding dark spots like Whiskeytown for the best views of these events.  Record Searchlight
