COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 30th annual Stuff the Bus Toy Drive filled 2.5 buses in Redding and one bus in Chico on Dec. 4, giving children in need new, unwrapped toys. The Salvation Army asks for Bike Assembly Elves to volunteer; call (530) 222-2207 for more info.  KRCR
  • Tomorrow at 9:55 a.m., the Sons and Daughters of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Group invite residents to attend an annual remembrance ceremony on the steps of the Shasta County Administration Building — a tribute to a day that will live in infamy.  KQMS
  • Ted Blankenheim has run his annual new-bike drive for foster children for over 22 years, donating roughly 350 bikes per year. Donations begin this month at Redding AAA, Budget Blinds, Dill's Deli, and Starbucks on South Churn Creek Drive (limited hours at Starbucks).  KRCR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hambro Recycling will launch four mobile CRV redemption sites in Redding and Palo Cedro starting in January. The Redding sites are set up at Holiday Market parking lots on Placer Street and Shasta View Drive and Walmart on Dana Drive, and the Palo Cedro site is at Holiday Market on Deschutes Ave.  KRCR

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, Dec. 4, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office & Health and Human Services Agency conducted a youth decoy operation at 28 locations, and a Country Market employee was cited for selling tobacco to a minor as part of ongoing efforts to enforce the 21 age law.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Redding’s Lighted Christmas Parade returns with the theme 'Christmas in the Wild' when it kicks off at 5 p.m. on California Street and ends on Yuba Street.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Prescribed fires start Monday, Dec. 8 in the Weaverville and McCloud districts to lower wildfire risk. The burns will affect 25 acres near Trinity Lake and 100 acres near Cabin Creek, and residents should expect road closures and smoke.  Action News Now
  • The Shasta-Trinity National Forest issued an order on Dec. 4 that prohibits transporting golden, zebra, and quagga mussels near Shasta Lake, Lewiston Lake, Trinity Lake, Iron Canyon Reservoir, or McCloud Reservoir until Dec. 4, 2027 (violators face fines and possible jail time).  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Redding Christian beat Middletown 22+18 at the NorCal regional finals on Dec.6 and advanced to the first state championship game in school history. They will play the Woodbridge Warriors at one of three venues in Southern California in the coming week.  Record Searchlight
