- ➤ Today, Redding public television station KIXE received about $1,000 from fifteen new donors after John Oliver featured rural PBS stations on 'Last Week Tonight'—boosting its donations amid severe federal funding cuts that left it short of nearly $400,000 in bridge funding for 2026. The station has applied for major grants—awaiting decisions by Dec. 11 to secure ongoing support. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Redding firefighter and former smokejumper Bob Diaz solved the final puzzle on Wheel of Fortune on Dec. 1 and won a 6-day Disney World trip along with about $3000 in cash. His family will use the prize for a trip planned in 2027 so that his daughters can be older and enjoy the park experience—he shared his win with fellow firefighters at Station 1. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Despite economic challenges this year, donors in the Northstate gave generously on Giving Tuesday by contributing over $1.2 million so far in donations of $100 or less for food distributions, toy drives, and other essential services. The Community Foundation of the Northstate collected gifts for local groups such as Exodus Farms Ministry + Siskiyou Humane Society until 8 p.m. Tuesday with the goal of breaking last year's $1.6 million record. - ➤ The trailer for the action-thriller movie The Dresden Sun is out now and 95% of it was filmed in Redding. A local screening will be held on Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.—about 100 tickets are available. KRCR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta-Trinity National Forest and Mount Shasta Avalanche Center have launched daily avalanche forecasts available by 7 a.m. to help keep visitors safe on winter recreation areas—such as Mount Shasta, Castle Lake, and the Eddy Mountains. They will also provide free avalanche education with practical training starting Saturday, December 6, at 7 p.m. at Deadwood Supply Co. in Mount Shasta. Action News Now
- ➤ On Dec. 6, Beautify Shasta will host its largest volunteer clean-up at the Bird Sanctuary Loop near Turtle Bay Exploration Park, where volunteers will meet outside the Sheraton Hotel near the Monolith at 8 a.m.—Mark Ewing said the effort will target abandoned encampments and high-impact litter zones, ending at 12 p.m. ShastaScout

- ➤ California announced that fast chargers for electric vehicles will be built in Redding as part of statewide infrastructure improvements. The project was reported on Dec 2 and is expected to boost local commutes. Action News Now
