COMMUNITY NEWS

  • North State Giving Tuesday will be held on December 2 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to support over 210 nonprofits from the area; early giving began Tuesday and the event is hosted by the Community Foundation + Columbia Bank, with local businesses set to offer prize money and hourly awards to boost donations.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • A nationwide anti-censorship movement called Fall of Freedom will bring a banned book reading and art show to Redding on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Viva Downtown Community Space (1435 Butte Street next to the Art Hunger Gallery).  KQMS
  • Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding will launch its 6th Annual Garden of Lights on Friday—transforming the Turtle Bay Arboretum and Gardens into a winter wonderland that runs until January 4 with over two million lights across 10 acres. New attractions include the Turtle Express Train Ride that takes visitors past festive winter displays while proceeds support park educational programs.  Action News Now
  • The Cascade Theatre announced a new version of its annual holiday show—A Cascade Christmas—which will run Nov. 21—23 and Nov. 28—30 and follow three elves on a quest to help an amnesiac Santa find his way. Local veteran and child actors will perform familiar musical numbers like Run, Run Rudolph and an original song as they bring a fresh twist to this beloved seasonal tradition.  Record Searchlight

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Redding Library has not reopened as planned because renovations are taking longer than expected—officials will share a new opening date when confirmed. The library closed in August after receiving grant funding to update the flooring.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three young bears were hit by vehicles on Highway 299 in less than three months, with collisions occurring (late July near Trinity Mountain Road, Sept. 10 near Lewiston, and Oct. 20 near Whiskeytown Lake) in a key bear habitat corridor. Experts warn that these incidents highlight rising risks for drivers and wildlife as bears move farther for food, and officials urge the public to report collisions.  ShastaScout

  • Shasta County Supervisor Matt Plummer is leading a major cleanup effort at Lakeshore Villa RV Park in Lakehead—Waste Management is donating three roll-off bins to help remove the accumulated trash and revitalize the site.  KQMS

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Redding doctor warned that misuse of nitrous oxide led to seven hospitalizations this fall and can cause severe damage like loss of mobility. City officials are looking into regulating its sale at local stores — a step similar to measures in other Northern California cities.  Record Searchlight
