  • Redding community members visited the Redding Veterans Home on Friday during the Adopt a Veteran event to choose a veteran to receive a Christmas gift—gathering started at 9 a.m. and all gift tags were selected in two hours. Those who missed the event may call 5302243300 ext 3.  Action News Now
  • United Way of Northern California is offering $100 gift cards to families affected by a pause in SNAP benefits across nine counties, including Shasta. CULTURE NEWS

  • Redding’s second annual California Chocolate Expo ended on November 16th at the Red Lion Hotel—bringing together over 40 vendors, live performances from the Redding City Ballet and costumed actors—and featured a range of artisan treats from local and international chocolatiers. Judges awarded the best dessert—German chocolate cake—to When Pie Meets Bread, and organizers plan to return next year.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the U.S. Forest Service announced that prescribed burns in McCloud within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest will begin to reduce wildfire hazards and will continue through Friday. The controlled burns are part of safety measures designed to lower the risk of future wildfires.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on Edith Avenue and Airpark Drive in Redding face intermittent traffic control through Dec. 19 for the REU Electric Vault Upgrade Project — crews work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the day and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. at night to install conduit and replace vaults. Motorists should drive carefully or use alternate routes while emergency vehicles have full access.  Record Searchlight
