- ➤ A holiday gift giving event will be held at the Redding Veterans Home on Knighton Road at 10 a.m. Friday—community members can adopt-a-vet by choosing a tag that shows a veteran's gift wish until the tags are gone. KQMS
- ➤ Veterans gathered at the Veterans Memorial Hall on Skyway in Paradise to celebrate their service and share memories from the Vietnam, Korean and Middle East conflicts. The event featured rifle salutes, a pledge of allegiance, prayers and a large American flag cake while speakers discussed the mental health challenges many veterans face. Action News Now
- ➤ Downtown Barbers in Redding gave free haircuts on November 11 to veterans staying at Faithworks Transitional Housing in honor of Veterans Day. Ezequiel and Javier, who have offered this service for four years, said the act shows gratitude — one Navy veteran noted he had not had a professional haircut in decades. KRCR
- ➤ Yesterday, hundreds gathered at the Redding Elks Lodge to honor veterans with a cognac toast and a salute that included the Flag and Flower Challenge led by 20-year-old Preston Sharp, who asked participants to visit local cemeteries to place a flag and a flower on a veteran’s gravesite + local reporter Mike Mangas honored his Navy veteran father from World War II by joining the challenge. - ➤ The Salvation Army of Redding has asked local residents for donations to raise $300,000 to support essential holiday programs such as the Hope Market and emergency services. A Red Kettle kick-off event with live comedy and refreshments will be held Nov. 18—showing the nonprofit's reliance on community help. KRCR

- ➤ Timber industry leaders from FABRIC Mass Timber and WRNS Studio are planning a 200,000-square-foot mass timber factory at Stillwater Business Park in Redding that will use forest thinning wood to make climate-positive building materials — they will work with the Shasta Economic Development Corporation, Cal Fire, and the U.S. Forest Service and plan to apply for a building permit next fall while training Shasta College students. - ➤ Local country singer Chad Bushnell — Country Artist of the Year winner at the Josie Music Awards — will headline a benefit concert for cancer awareness at the State Theatre this weekend. He plans to raise funds and support research while performing his well-known hits. Action News Now

- ➤ The Redding Area Bus Authority is holding its 16th Annual Salute to Veterans event on Friday, November 14 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.—free bus rides and drive-thru donations at Plumas Bank branches and Burney Library will support veterans with transit fare for essential services. Action News Now

- ➤ On Monday, June 30, Sunrise Mountain Wellness Center in Redding offered mental health support to veterans and advised them to use local services to cope with challenges such as PTSD and TBI – the center connected veterans to programs from local agencies and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. - ➤ Haven Humane Society is partnering with Animal Balance to host two clinics that will offer over 400 low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs.
