COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Cottonwood residents voiced concerns over a planned truck stop that may bring more traffic and noise — local officials are set to review the project details soon — as they work to keep their neighborhood peaceful. Action News Now
- ➤ Redding Police will hold a toy drive for Operation Blue Santa to collect new unwrapped toys for local children and families. The event will run Saturday the 15th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall—donations can also help provide extra treats like candy-filled stockings and stuffed animals along the way. KQMS
- ➤ The City of Shasta Lake will host the 32nd Annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. at the Shasta Lake Fire Hall and the parade beginning at 10 a.m.—rain or shine—with former U.S. Air Force Medic Sergeant Dave Thompson serving as Grand Marshal. Attendees may also see a flyover from Klamath Falls if weather permits and enjoy a pulled pork lunch at American Legion Post 720 afterward. KQMS
- ➤ The North Valley Community Foundation launched a Food Insecurity Relief Fund last week to support local food banks amid the government shutdown. On Monday, the foundation awarded five grants totaling $7,000 to pantries in Corning, Southside Oroville, Plumas County, and the North Valley Community Food Bank—efforts that will continue after the shutdown ends. - ➤ The Pilot travel center in Orland at 4444 Commerce Lane completed a major remodel as part of Pilot Company's $1 billion New Horizons initiative and donated $10,000 to Orland Unified School District on November 6 to fund new instruments for Fairview Elementary band. The upgrades include a refreshed interior, updated eateries, a new deli area, and improved restrooms — changes that Pilot says will provide better service for travelers. KRCR

- ➤ Cal Fire lifted the permit requirement for residential burn piles in areas under the Shasta-Trinity and Tehama-Glenn Units—residents must still follow burn guidelines and Redding continues to require permits until next May. KQMS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Nor-Cal Type One Diabetes Club will host its first annual Type 1 Diabetes Strides Walk on November 8th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sundial Bridge. Participants will complete a 1.5-mile route and visit health and wellness vendors while enjoying a hot dog lunch—the bridge will also be lit blue on November 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th in honor of World Diabetes Month. - ➤ Registration opens November 13 for the Ironman 70.3 Northern California triathlon that will run through Redding and Whiskeytown on August 16 — the race features a 1.2-mile swim in Whiskeytown Lake, a 56-mile bike course, and a 13.1-mile run along the Sacramento River Trail. City officials approved the event with an expected service cost of $250,000 to $500,000 while a local tourism group will help cover expenses. Record Searchlight
