Good morning, Redding. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 4th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redding installed its Christmas tree on Market Street in downtown Redding to prepare for the lighting ceremony on December 5 at 7 p.m.—the ceremony will follow a classic car show earlier that day.  KRCR
  • The Community Foundation of the North State is raising funds to award grants to local nonprofits serving Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties during the ongoing federal government shutdown. The funds will help households keep food on the table and pay for essential services—providing direct support to residents who have lost their assistance.  KQMS
  • The Salvation Army Del Oro Division is urging community members to support food assistance as a 12% rise in families seeking help is straining local resources—rising costs and housing instability drive the increased demand, and donations of food items or time are needed to maintain services. The organization reported that many pantries have seen double-digit jumps in requests, making community support essential.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans District 2 started its Crash Responder Safety Campaign urging drivers to slow down and move over when they see flashing lights. The campaign runs through November—coinciding with Crash Responder Safety Week from November 17 to 21—and features a video with CHP and local agencies that reminds motorists to use QuickMap for real-time traffic updates.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Couples in their mid-30s making $50,000 will see their Covered California premiums rise from $33 to $278 a month — a steep jump that could change how they manage their health care. A wind advisory is in effect from 10:00 p.m. today to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in areas including the Carquinez Strait, Delta, Sacramento Valley, and Northeast Foothills so residents should secure outdoor items and drive with care.  Action News Now
