COMMUNITY NEWS

  • HiLine Homes will launch its Building Homes and Filling Plates food drive from November 1 to November 21 to collect non-perishable food donations at its offices across Northern California and the Pacific Northwest; all donations will support local food banks in the region.  Action News Now
  • Good News Rescue Mission announced that its 28th annual Stuff the Truck event will be held on November 7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Redding, and Shasta County residents are encouraged to donate holiday meal items like cranberry sauce, stuffing, and turkeys at Save Mart on Churn Creek Road or Walmart on Dana Drive—those unable to attend can have the organization shop on their behalf.  Action News Now
  • Tehama County Sheriff’s Deputies rescued a dog stuck on a narrow bank along the Sacramento River Tuesday—using their boat to retrieve the pet from the steep cliff after a boater spotted it. Dispatchers found the owner through a Facebook post, which allowed the deputies to safely return the dog.  KQMS

  • Arch Collaborative CEO Kimberly Johnson spoke to supporters of the behavioral campus before the Oct. 28 Shasta supervisors meeting—she addressed the group ahead of the scheduled session.  Record Searchlight
  • Crews harvested the state Capitol Christmas tree from LaTour Demonstration State Forest on Tuesday and today it will be loaded onto a trailer to transport it to the Capitol Building for the upcoming holiday season.  Action News Now
  • Redding’s Planning Commission approved the Peaks Subdivision, a 120-home development on Quartz Hill Road in West Redding—city officials said improvements to evacuation routes address concerns raised by residents recalling the Carr Fire.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • U-Prep freshman athletes Talis Payne and Allyson Maki were named Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for Oct. 20 to 26. Payne led his team to a win with a score of 32 to 6 in football plus Maki won two freestyle races and helped her swim team earn a first-place finish at the Northern Athletic League finals.  Record Searchlight
  • The Ironman 70.3 triathlon will come to Redding on August 16th, 2026—featuring a 1.2-mile swim at Whiskeytown Lake, a 56-mile bike ride to downtown, and a 13.1-mile run ending at the Civic Auditorium. Laurie Baker said organizers expect about 2,000 athletes and a boost for local hotels and restaurants.  KRCR
