- ➤ Lake Redding Golf Course, operated by California Sporting Company since 2023, will close this winter as The McConnell Foundation plans to create a new golf amenity—upgrading the irrigation, design, parking and accessibility features for a modern recreational experience. - ➤ During the week of Oct. 20, Shasta County Office of Education staff hosted drug prevention events where former DEA agent Rocky Herron spoke to over 1,800 students and staff from 29 schools about the risks of strong marijuana, cheap methamphetamine, and deadly fentanyl pills—presentations that led up to Red Ribbon Week. - ➤ A section of eastbound Cypress Avenue between Larkspur Lane and Churn Creek Road will be intermittently closed from Oct. 27 to Nov. 7 for ADA curb ramp replacement and sidewalk improvements, with crews working from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — motorists should exercise caution as emergency services keep access open. - ➤ Dignity Health Connected Living, which runs Shasta County's main food bank, said the government shutdown is expected to delay SNAP benefits for thousands of families - officials are preparing for further funding issues. Action News Now
- ➤ County supervisors will discuss a letter opposing state funds for a behavioral health facility in Shasta today at 9 a.m.—the letter from Health Director Christy Coleman and Board Chair Kevin Crye raises concerns over committing the county to 30 years of support services while local leaders back a project that could bring $200 million in investment and 200 jobs.
