- ➤ Northern Valley Catholic Social Service returns with its Adopt-A-Family program to help Redding families in need by matching donors with families for the holidays. The program accepts adoptions through Dec. 12 — volunteers are also needed for distribution days. KRCR
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews stopped two small fires in Shasta County in the last 24 hours; one started a little after noon near Old 44 Drive in Millville and the other began just before 11 p.m. near Lou Anne Lane off Olinda Road west of Anderson (both fires were contained to less than one acre). KQMS

- ➤ Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will celebrate 45 years as it expands eco-friendly operations—its new Can-Do Innovation Center will drive the launch of the award-winning Trail Pass Hazy IPA later this month. Action News Now

- ➤ CAL FIRE Butte Unit plans a controlled burn in the Loafer Creek Recreation Area—over 145 acres of brush and grass will be burned to lower the risk of a dangerous wildfire. Action News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office will hold a community meeting to discuss the upcoming installation of automated license plate readers — a new system that will track vehicle movements for investigations like AMBER Alerts and missing persons. Questions will be heard next Monday at 5 p.m. in the Shasta Lake City Council Chambers on Red Bluff Street. KQMS
- ➤ The Redding Police Department will collect unwanted medication at the roundabout in front of Redding City Hall on Cypress Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25—an event designed to safely dispose of drugs and reduce medication misuse. KRCR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County board of supervisors voted 4-1 to install six naloxone vending machines that will give Narcan to reverse opioid overdoses at places such as community health centers and rescue missions—some supervisors worried that unrestricted access might encourage drug use, but health officials and the sheriff support the move to save lives. - ➤ The Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency warned residents after two bats tested positive for rabies. Residents are urged to cover any bat found with a bucket or box and contact animal services immediately—avoiding bare hand contact. Action News Now

- ➤ The McConnell Foundation is planning to redevelop Lake Redding Golf Course into a modern golfing and recreational venue while keeping play open until winter. The final plan will take up to a year as officials study options such as simulators, a nine-hole course, restaurant and pub — promising local golfers a fresh chapter ahead. KRCR

- ➤ Two high school student-athletes from Enterprise and Anderson were honored as Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for Oct. 13-19. Enterprise running back Koby Johnson recorded 315 total yards and four touchdowns in a 34-28 win as his team kept the River Bowl trophy (while Anderson tennis player Samantha Carter achieved key singles and doubles wins during the Northern Athletic League title run).
