COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Dancing With The Shasta Stars took place at the Cascade Theater, where community and professional dancers raised over $184K for One Safe Place to help domestic violence and sexual assault survivors in Shasta County. Eva Jimenez (winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy and People’s Choice Award) and Dr. Jesse Curran (winner of the Judge’s Choice Award) were honored for their roles in the fundraiser.  KQMS
  • RABA will offer a Boo Cruise this Saturday night that visits 13 haunted houses from the Canby Transfer Facility at the Mount Shasta Mall with runs at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. RABA also will provide free rides on all routes on Halloween Day for those wearing a costume — no masks or costume weapons are allowed.  KQMS
  • The Redding Public Market is taking shape on Market Street and will include restaurants, a grocery store and shops with soft openings planned within the next 30 days—K2 Development says the project will bring new energy to downtown.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Family members will hold a memorial service for flight nurse Susan 'Suzie' Smith at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Redding Civic Auditorium following her death from injuries sustained in a Sacramento helicopter crash on Oct. 6.  ShastaScout

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday on spending $162K for six vending machines that dispense naloxone in response to a spike in fentanyl overdose deaths. The machines (which track inventory and control doses) are planned for use after Tuesday (following systems that have proved effective in other counties) to help reverse overdoses.  KQMS
  • Redding Regional Airport reopened Monday, October 20—one day ahead of schedule—after nearly a monthlong closure for runway resurfacing and improvements that restored commercial flights. A new parking system uses license plate recognition so travelers can text a designated code to pay, with the first four hours free.  Record Searchlight

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amputee Outreach, a Chico-based nonprofit, helps hundreds of amputees in the North Valley get physical and emotional support through education and group programs. Andrew Menesini and director Shelly Baxter-Wetmore said the organization guides those in recovery—ensuring no one faces these challenges alone.  Action News Now
  • Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency warned residents after two bats tested positive for rabies in the last two months—officials urge people to avoid touching wild bats, use gloves if handling them, and keep pets’ shots current. Anyone who is bitten or scratched by a wild animal should seek testing and treatment immediately.  ShastaScout
  • Enloe Health reached its $20M fundraising goal for the Gonzales Comprehensive Cancer Center at Bruce Road and East 20th Street + the center is now under construction.  Action News Now
