COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A tribute for flight nurse Suzie Smith will be held at the Redding Civic Auditorium on November 14th with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. and the service starting at 6:00 p.m.—Smith died in early October after a helicopter crash on Highway 50 in Sacramento.  KQMS
  • Tomorrow, residents will gather at City Hall for the No Kings Day of Action protest from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.— they will march down Cypress Avenue at 10 a.m. and donate non-perishable food for the Shasta College Food Pantry to express their support for people-powered democracy.  A News Cafe
  • Anderson VFW Post 9650 donated $25,000 to the Anderson Police Department’s K9 program—money that helped the department purchase a new police dog.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire on Poco Vista Lane in Mountain Gate caused about $100,000 in damage on Oct 16th — firefighters rescued two cats and a rabbit, but one cat did not survive.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leaders with the Cottonwood Fire Protection District received a $12,450 grant to remove dangerous vegetation from wildland-urban areas and will inspect target spots over the next 90 days. The grant lets the district hire crews to cut plants starting in the spring + helps it fight wildfires more effectively.  KRCR
  • On October 16th, the United States Forest Service shut down the Colby Mountain Fire Lookout Tower on Colby Mountain—where Ken Jordan had worked since 1985—and announced plans to tear it down.  Action News Now
  • On Thursday morning, drivers on W. 9th Street near Ivy Street experienced heavy traffic as road work on Highway 32 narrowed two lanes to one — causing long backups.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ampla Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new family dental and care clinic on Cohasset Road—its 14 dental procedure rooms and 4 medical examination rooms are set to serve about 3,000 patients and over 1,600 pediatric patients each year.  Action News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • Foothill football will honor the family of local nurse Suzie Smith, who died on Oct. 10 after a helicopter accident on Highway 50, during military and first responder appreciation night today before the game against Red Bluff. The Smith family—some of whom have been part of the program—will be recognized as team captains to show support for those who serve.  Record Searchlight
