COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Off-road enthusiasts will join the Fall Crawl 2025 at the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area on October 11—organized by Friends of Chappie and supported by local clubs. Registration fees are $60 for the first 30 rigs, $10 for spectators and free for children 12 and under, with a mandatory drivers meeting at 10 a.m. following sign-ins at 7 a.m.  Action News Now
  • Today, Good News Rescue Mission CEO Jonathan Anderson ended a 24-hour event called 'Conversations on a Bench' outside the shelter that began yesterday at noon to help change how the community sees homelessness—he spoke with everyone who joined him. The event was set up to open dialogue on homelessness.  Action News Now
  • Redding Police sent bicycle officers, traffic officers, and resource officers to keep children safe during Wednesday’s Walk & Roll to School event (the officers watched over school routes to help keep kids safe) as students walked and rode bikes to school.  Action News Now
  • The Shasta Regional Community Foundation today is establishing the Shasta County Fund with an initial distribution of $25,000 to support local needs (the foundation has managed over 180 funds since 2000 and now expands its local efforts).  KQMS

  • A local player named Alex won $337,843.47 on a $3.75 spin at Feather Falls Casino on the new Huff N Even More Puff slot machine, achieving his jackpot less than a week after the game was installed—leaving him in shock. The win highlights the casino's recent upgrade aimed at offering customers exciting opportunities.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Redding has unveiled two new trolleys acquired from North Carolina for $300,000 to boost public transit routes in downtown, Churn Creek and Hilltop — they will be used in the upcoming Christmas and Veteran parades.  KRCR
  • Shasta County voters are receiving ballots in the mail ahead of the November 4 special statewide election, and county staff are making mail runs twice daily to avoid delayed postmarks. Voters can request a hand stamp or drop off ballots at polling places and drop boxes open from October 6 through election night — the state covers postage.  Action News Now
  • Redding voters will see Measure A on their ballots this November, a citizen-led sales tax that may add 1% to boost funds for police, fire, roads and parks—big donors include the Redding Rodeo Association and Advance Redding, which together gave over $267,000. If approved, the extra money will give the city about $30 million each year and require an advisory board and yearly audits.  ShastaScout
  • Caltrans is warning drivers in Northern California to prepare for hazardous winter roads as an early season storm will bring rain to valleys and snow to mountains from October 13 through October 15. Motorists should winterize vehicles (check fluid levels, tire pressure, and emergency supplies) to drive safely.  Action News Now
