- ➤ Haven Humane Society in Anderson named Jim Lewis as its new chief executive officer—he will take over when Mark Storrey retires on Oct. 14 after nearly 13 years. Lewis, a lifelong Redding resident who joined Haven in 2011 and advanced through several roles, will lead the shelter in providing care for local animals. Record Searchlight

- ➤ A Hispanic heritage celebration will be held at Redding’s Sundial Bridge on Sunday, October 12 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.—organized in part by Shasta County Citizens Advocating Respect, the free event will feature food, live music, traditional dance and cultural activities. KQMS

- ➤ Tallianna Richey-Miller from the Shasta County Office of Education was honored as the 2025 Environmental Educator—Instructor of the Year for Northern California by the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education. She leads the classrooms at Whiskeytown Environmental School and Schreder Planetarium and uses local landscapes as living lessons. Action News Now

- ➤ PG&E has finished 1,000 miles of underground powerlines in areas with high fire risk to cut wildfire danger in 27 counties. The company will expand the project to 1,600 miles by the end of 2026 to lower risk by 18% — a key step in protecting local homes. KRCR
