ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new public market is planned to revitalize downtown Redding + city officials say it will boost local business and create opportunities for vendors and visitors. Action News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cal Fire's Shasta-Trinity Unit said on Sunday that a prescribed burn initially planned for Monday near Igo Veterans Cemetery on Lower Gas Point Road has been rescheduled—crews have not yet provided a new date. KRCR
- ➤ PG&E has completed 1,000 miles of underground powerlines in high fire risk areas to lower the chance of wildfires; its hardening efforts have cut risk by 8.4% since 2023 — spanning 27 counties — and it will expand to 1,600 miles by 2026 as costs drop to $3.1 million per mile this year. - ➤ Orland City Council will debate a flag policy today at 6:30 p.m. after the Hispanic Heritage Flag Society requested that Mexican flags be displayed on Hispanic holidays—council staff will choose from four options including a formal city policy. KRCR
- ➤ On Oct. 6, the Papini custody case continued in a Shasta County courtroom where Keith attended and Sherri's lawyer was present—Judge Kathryn Barton set the next hearing for Dec. 8 to review her therapy commitments. KRCR
- ➤ Today the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will review options to streamline county committees—34 of 81 groups may be eliminated—and will also discuss increasing CalPERS contributions for staff. In closed session the Board will negotiate contracts with the Teamsters Union and consider a lawsuit from former Sheriff Eric Magrini. KQMS
- ➤ Voting began on Monday, October 6 when Shasta County opened its polls for the special election that includes Proposition 50 and Redding’s Measure A—a proposed 1% sales tax increase—while officials confirmed that new tabulators and monitors are ready for the November 4 election. KRCR
- ➤ Due to Prop 1, more than two dozen local programs that met the Mental Health Services Act requirements are no longer eligible for the Behavioral Health Services Act—raising the risk that these programs will lose funding in Butte County. Action News Now
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Tehama County Health Services Agency will host a free drive through flu clinic in Red Bluff on October 18—9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—at the Government Center Parking Lot at 1850 Walnut Street. The clinic will offer only flu vaccines and asks visitors to wear loose clothing and not bring pets. Action News Now
