COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 3, staff from Allianz Heating & Air partnered with Lennox to install a free HVAC system for Redding resident Denise Cooper—who faced financial strain after her husband's passing. The Feel the Love program is now in its second year and will offer two free installations next year to help other community members.  KRCR
  • The Community Foundation of the North State launched the Shasta County Fund to mark its 25th anniversary and help meet urgent needs in Shasta County—$25,000 will be given to local nonprofits over the year as funding details are finalized.  Action News Now
  • The Johnny Appleseed Festival will be held soon in Redding and will feature over 100 vendors offering local flavors and fun activities. Organizers say the event promises exciting attractions – a chance for families to enjoy a day of community spirit.  Action News Now
  • The Active 20-30 Club announced that the 44th Annual Redding Lighted Christmas Parade will be held December 6 in Downtown Redding at 6 p.m.—the event will feature lighted floats, marching bands, a visit from Santa Claus, and a 'Christmas in the Wild' theme blending holiday spirit with nature. Float registration remains open until November 27 and the parade is free to attend, according to parade chair Chris Elliott.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Redding Rancheria hosted the Stillwater Pow Wow at the Redding Rodeo Grounds on Auditorium Drive to celebrate cultural traditions—cash prizes and a drum contest were offered. The event took place on Oct 3.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At around 6:34 a.m. Friday, USGS reported a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck 9 kilometers west of Manton in Tehama County — its depth was 10 kilometers — and officials are awaiting additional reports from locals.  Action News Now
  • A magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck near Manton early Friday at 6:30 a.m. (about 5.5 miles west of Manton) with shaking felt from Millville to Paynes Creek and no injuries or damage reported (USGS data).  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California Attorney General Rob Bonta warned Shasta voters that ballots mailed on Election Day will get a postmark delay and must be mailed by the day before to count properly. Shasta County now has only four ballot drop boxes, including one at Redding City Hall—after Registrar Clint Curtis eliminated nine sites to reduce costs.  ShastaScout
  • The City of Shasta Lake will begin water main installation work on Lake Boulevard near Kennett Road on Oct. 6 and continue until Oct. 10, closing the road between about one mile north of State Route 151 and Kennett Road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weather permitting—drivers are advised to use State Route 151 to access Shasta Dam and the Centimudi Boat Ramp.  KRCR
