COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On October 1, Shasta County law enforcement in Redding unveiled patrol vehicles wrapped in pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, featuring designs by Shasta Union High School District students. The campaign—co-led by Signarama and the Redding Police Department—will continue with more agencies participating and the sale of pink patches to fund early detection education.  KRCR
  • The Shasta Gem and Mineral Society is hosting a free gem show at the Shasta District Fairgrounds in Anderson this weekend + it will run from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday and offer geode cutting, fossils, and kids activities.  KQMS
  • Haven Humane Society in Anderson will waive all adoption fees as part of BISSEL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event—giving local residents a cost-free chance to adopt a pet. Interested adopters are encouraged to visit the society soon for more details.  Action News Now
  • Officials celebrated the grand opening of Piper Way Senior Apartments in West Redding on October 1, a milestone in affordable housing after more than 20 years of planning—60 low-income units are now fully occupied, including seniors who were formerly homeless. Christian Church Homes partnered with the city to create Redding’s first project funded by the California Department of Developmental Services for seniors with developmental disabilities.  KRCR

  • Redding Rancheria will host the Stillwater Pow Wow this weekend at Redding Rodeo grounds from October 3-5. The free, family-friendly event will showcase Native dances, contest announcements, and a ceremony honoring tribal elders.  ShastaScout
  • Redding Rancheria will host the Stillwater Powwow this weekend at the Redding Rodeo Grounds—this free event features vibrant regalia, dancing, drumming and singing. A dinner honoring tribal elders will be held Thursday at Win River Casino—activities start Friday at 4:00 p.m. and end Sunday at noon.  KQMS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Representatives of the Yurok Tribe announced Tuesday that Jenny Creek restoration along the Klamath River was completed, letting Chinook salmon and other fish return to the stream—marking a key step in the local ecosystem’s recovery.  KRCR
  • Residents have reported an aggressive Aedis Aegypti mosquito in Shasta County that arrived in 2020 and now spreads during summer and fall — local officials advise removing standing water, though no cases of Yellow Fever have been found.  KQMS
  • The Department of Water Resources is warning Californians to prepare for a wet La Niña year that may cause heavy storms followed by dry spells and increased flood risks in wildfire areas—local agencies have pre-positioned flood materials in 70 locations.  KRCR

  • Christian leader Sean Feucht from Redding faces accusations of financial mismanagement—claims include misuse of ministry funds, excessive real estate purchases, and unpaid staff by former volunteers.   • Shasta Regional Medical Center released a statement saying it supports nurses who held a candlelight vigil for patient safety outside the hospital on Wednesday and explained that recent updates like tele-pharmacy and new care procedures aim to keep patients safe + maintain high care standards.  Action News Now
