- ➤ Haven Humane Society is hosting the Empty the Shelters event as Bissell Pet Foundation covers adoption fees until October 15—adopters pay only the license fee. The program has helped more than 360,000 pets find new homes nationwide. KQMS
- ➤ Healthy Shasta invites locals in Shasta County to join the Walktober Challenge this October and log steps on synced devices to win gift cards, national park passes, and a chance at a $500 charity donation—teams must average 6,000 steps per person each day. - ➤ Isaac Lowe, a respected leader in Redding's African American community, was honored when her plaque was unveiled at the MLK Center on September 29. The ceremony included a short march down Court Street and family and friends sharing stories of her achievements — such as founding Shasta County Citizens Against Racism and persuading the City Council to observe Martin Luther King Day. - ➤ Gusty winds turned a fire into a firestorm in Downtown Weed on Sunday, burning the Black Butte Saloon on Main Street and spreading flames to a cannabis dispensary and a U.S. Bank Branch—while on Friday, fires near Buckeye burned a home and nearby brush and a fire by the Highway 273 bridge in South Redding halted traffic and stopped a train. - ➤ A new collectibles store named TOYZOO will open its doors at 5000 Shasta Dam Blvd at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 in Shasta Lake—offering toys, coins, and jewelry for collectors as owners Anita Crawford and Ken Papini bring 85 years of sales experience. Record Searchlight
- ➤ Northstate eateries hit by wildfires and hurricanes can apply for a $3 million disaster relief fund that provides up to $25,000 for repairs, lost inventory and temporary expenses; business owners must submit details by October 3. - ➤ The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has lifted fire restrictions today while Six Rivers National Forest will lift them on Oct. 1 as recent rains and cooler temperatures improved conditions, according to the USFS. The agency advises visitors to follow safe campfire practices and vehicle precautions—measures that remain important even with the updated restrictions. KRCR

- ➤ Drivers in Redding should prepare for delays on East Bonnyview Road as workers will replace a damaged street light in the 5000 block between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from October 6 to October 10—traffic control measures on westbound South Bonnyview Road advise alternate routes while emergency vehicles maintain access. - ➤ Crews are working on underground utilities maintenance between Clay Street and North Market Street in Redding—work will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Friday. Action News Now
- ➤ Shasta County District 4 Supervisor Matt Plummer supports three local behavioral health projects applying for bond funding through Proposition 1—True North Behavioral Health Campus, Children First Bridge to Wellness Hub, and Family Dynamic’s Resource Center & Pathways to Leadership Campus. He said the projects will help keep treatment in the county by reducing the need to send 350 adults and youth out for care, with funds set to be awarded by 2026. KRCR
