Good morning, Redding.
🏘️ Community
The 45th annual Honeybee Festival brought thousands to Palo Cedro over the weekend with live music, food trucks + handmade booths that raised over $30-thousand for a private park relying entirely on community donations, according to coordinator Shelly Carlock.
A local walker from Happy Valley who commutes in Redding said he was repeatedly chased by off-leash dogs and urged owners to secure their pets so that neighbors feel safe.
He stressed maintaining fences (and proper leash control) could prevent dangerous encounters.
🎓 Education
Redding School of the Arts announced plans to break ground today on an $11M facility to house 200 high school students near its Shasta View Drive campus; this project (which will replace modular classrooms used since 2022) expands the school’s offerings beyond its current K-8 program.
🌲 Environment
This summer in Redding ranked among Shasta County's top five warmest despite not reaching 110 degrees, and temperatures were cooler than in record-breaking 2024.
Forecasts predict above-normal rainfall and warmer fall and winter amid a developing El Niño.
🏛️ Government
Beloved CHP drug-sniffing dog Hac, who seized hundreds of pounds of illegal narcotics over his six-year career, died peacefully on Friday surrounded by officers and family.
He retired in 2023 and was honored in 2019 for his dedicated service.
