COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new 600-square-foot ADU at Good News Rescue Mission in Redding passed final inspection yesterday and will serve as transitional housing for a caretaker or their family, with a living room, bedroom, kitchen, full bathroom and storage space—built offsite to speed installation.  KRCR
  • Today, the 45th annual Palo Cedro Honey Bee Festival begins at the Bishop Quinn Community Center with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m.—the event runs through Sunday and includes a pancake breakfast, antique tractor and engine parade, bee costume parade, bee beard demonstration and live music—and proceeds will support improvements at Palo Cedro Community Park.  KQMS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE crews from the Shasta-Trinity Unit responded to a structure fire near Buckeye outside Redding on Friday afternoon (12000 block of Bailey Road) and reported that the blaze did not threaten nearby vegetation while remaining visible on the Bear Mountain Shasta 1 AlertCalifornia camera.  Action News Now
  • Firefighters responded last Friday morning to the Clear Fire at Highway 273 and Clear Creek Road between Redding and Anderson that burned 1 acre in Shasta County.  Action News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Golden Valley Bank celebrated its 20th anniversary on Friday, September 26 by donating $100,000 to local nonprofits—each of five groups will receive $20,000 with one grant already given to the State Theatre Arts Guild— and the bank will announce another grant next month in Redding.  KRCR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sea Monsters Unearthed opens today at Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding and shows large fossils along with interactive exhibits about giant marine reptiles. The exhibit was created by the National Museum of Natural History (including the Smithsonian) and will run through January 11.  KQMS
  • A Taste of Ireland — The Irish Music & Dance Sensation will perform at the Cascade Theatre in Redding tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., offering live music, Celtic dance and Irish storytelling with a modern twist. The touring show features former world champions and has tickets starting at $46.50.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs visited Redding this week—Scott Davis toured community landmarks including the future Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Center and the planned site for the I-5 Casino and Resort, the Redding Rancheria said.  Action News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Staff at Mercy Medical Center in Redding care for vulnerable infants in the only Level III NICU in the region—babies born as early as 32 weeks and needing advanced respiratory support receive round-the-clock care from a dedicated team during NICU Awareness Month.  KRCR
  • Shasta Regional Medical Center held a free community event on Sept. 26 where Dr. Aazib Khan taught about AFib and the higher stroke risk – urging residents to manage high blood pressure and review options such as the Watchman procedure for those who need an alternative to blood thinners.  KRCR
