COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 18, Dancing with the Shasta Stars will return to Redding at Cascade Theatre—where local celebrities will dance to raise funds for One Safe Place to support survivors of abuse. Obsidian IT—celebrating 25 years in service—presents the event that will allow the public to vote and donate while enjoying an inspirational night.  KRCR
  • Community Work Program Officers and Shasta County Alternative Custody Program workers removed 8 tons of garbage from homeless camps on the northbound side of Highway 273 near Northstate Recycling+ responding to multiple complaints.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A wind-driven fire broke out on Sept. 24 in a canyon in north Redding and was contained at 4 acres—firefighters continue to monitor the area for any change.  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Redding Regional Airport began its runway and parking lot upgrades on September 23rd—repaving 7,000 feet of runway and parking areas and halting all commercial flights until October 20th.  KRCR
  • The Redding League of Women Voters will host a free informational meeting on Saturday to explain the November 4 ballot — the session will cover Redding’s Measure A to fund law enforcement with a 1% tax and California Proposition 50, which would temporarily adjust Congressional district maps.  KQMS
  • Shasta County Supervisors approved nearly $132,000 in funding for election official Clint Curtis to test a ballot counting prototype for the upcoming November Special Election. Curtis said the new system will use six Hart Intercivic tabulators+ count ballots within three hours on Election Day while later ballots are processed afterward.  KQMS
  • Yesterday, Shasta County honored top law enforcement officers at the Exchange Club's 52nd annual Peace Officers of the Year luncheon at Win-River Resort and Casino—Assemblymember Heather Hadwick served as keynote and criticized Senate Bill 627—while several officers received awards for outstanding service.  KRCR
  • The City of Redding announced that AT&T will perform underground utility maintenance on southbound Hilltop Drive between East Palisades Avenue and Dana Drive from September 26 through October 3 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.—motorists are advised to drive with caution.  KRCR

HEALTH NEWS

  • NorCal Think Pink is planning a series of events in October to raise awareness for breast cancer in Redding. The group will host a barrel race in Red Bluff from Oct. 3 to 5, a 5k walk-run at the Sundial Bridge on Oct. 4, a car show at the Redding Elks Lodge on Oct. 12, a resource fair on Oct. 16 and a soccer tournament from Oct. 24 to 26 — most proceeds will go to help pay for further diagnostic testing.  KRCR

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Data from Realtor.com shows that in June the median home price in Shasta County dropped 6.1% to $360,500 from May — down 8.7% from last June — and total sales fell 7.8% to 190 transactions. Single-family homes and condos also recorded fewer high-value deals, indicating a noticeable cooling in the market.  Record Searchlight
