CULTURE NEWS

  • Sikh Center Anderson (with partner organizations) will host Inviting Cultures, a free multicultural event for families on Saturday, October 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Meadow Lane Elementary School (2770 Balls Ferry Road in Anderson) that will offer on-site health screenings and expert advice on health, nutrition, climate resilience and disaster preparedness.  KQMS
  • The Turtle Bay Museum in Redding will host the Sea Monsters Unearthed exhibit from September 27 to January 11 that shows fossils and shares stories of science—collaboration and discovery.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Redding League of Women Voters will host a free forum Saturday, Sept 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverfront Playhouse Theater in Redding to explain Redding Measure A and Calif. Prop 50, ballot items voters will see on Nov 4. The Measure A proposal would add a 1% tax for local services—while Prop 50 seeks temporary changes to district maps.  Record Searchlight
  • Shasta County's District One Supervisor Kevin Crye held a private town hall at the Red Lion Hotel on September 23 to address the healthcare crisis with about 30 local officials and community members—discussing issues like low doctor numbers and ideas for residency programs. He said he will hold a public meeting in the next two months—residents are also invited to join his coffee event on September 26 at Kaleidoscope Coffee on Athens Ave.  KRCR
  • Shasta County supervisors approved $131,961 for Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis' department to test a new ballot processing system that will count election night votes within three hours using six Hart InterCivic tabulators—this system excludes ballots received after election day. The elections office has kept only four ballot drop boxes due to fraud concerns, and the county also honored civil rights pioneer Isaac Lowe with a certificate before the Martin Luther King Jr. Center's monument dedication.  Record Searchlight
  • The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will discuss an amendment to the election budget that would add over $135,000 from the general fund during an upcoming meeting—official details on the implementation are pending.  Action News Now
  • On Tuesday, crews began work on the runway at Redding Regional Airport— the project will resurface the runway and upgrade its lighting for improved safety.  Action News Now
  • City leaders in Redding will speak at the annual State of the City Address today at the Redding Civic Auditorium from 11:30 AM to 1 PM—Mayor Jack Munns and Redding Chamber President and CEO Todd Jones will share local updates.  Action News Now

  • Week 5 of high school football in the Redding area will begin on Friday, Sept. 26 as teams play games scheduled between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.—for example, Red Bluff at Orland and Redding University Prep at Fortuna—while many teams prepare for league play in October.  Record Searchlight
