  • A new hotel opened in Redding as the local market shows growth+ a west side restaurant closed temporarily with owners saying it will reopen soon.  Record Searchlight
  • Split Creek Angus in Los Molinos won Champion Bull titles at the Cal Poly Bull Test for 2024 and 2025—earning a strong reputation for elite Angus genetics and careful animal care. CULTURE NEWS

  • Director Casey Cooper Johnson made a local movie called Lemurian Candidate set in Mount Shasta that shows three college friends on a backpacking trip where one takes hallucinogens for a strange weekend. The film runs for seven days at Mount Shasta Cinema on 118 Morgan Way + tickets are still available after a sold-out premiere as producers hope it reaches a Redding theater soon.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jared Caylor will serve as the new Superintendent of Schools for Tehama County starting October 6 and will hold the position until the end of 2026—when an election will determine his successor. His appointment marks a key step in shaping the county's education for the coming years.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caltrans crews removed trash, litter, and debris from under the Oregon Gulch overcrossing on Highway 273 in South Redding on September 19th — they finished the cleanup yesterday.  Action News Now
  • Redding Public Works Director Michael Webb said the city roads are barely in fair condition after recent projects on Hartnell Avenue and Old Oregon Trail but risk falling to poor without extra funding—if the city does not receive an additional eight to 10 million dollars a year over the next 10 years, many roads could need full reconstruction.  KRCR
  • At a Sept 16 meeting, City of Shasta Lake council approved a new rule letting them remove public speakers if their comments are deemed boisterous, profane or slanderous (a city attorney said the rule is not meant to silence dissent). Some legal experts worry the rule may break open-meeting laws and hurt free speech.  ShastaScout
  • The Shasta County Elections Office holds an open house today from 10AM to 2PM to show renovations including the removal of a wall and a new lounge area—providing citizens a direct view of the election process.  Action News Now
  • The City of Redding is repairing a busy road on Hartnell Avenue with a $1.6M asphalt replacement project — the work is set to be finished by Thanksgiving. Public Works Director Michael Webb said the street and others have passed their useful life and need repair.  Action News Now

  • Realtor.com data show that in August the median home listed in Shasta County was $429,000—3% lower than the previous month—with 272 new listings and homes staying on the market for a median of 63 days.
