COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 18th, 2025, offenders with the Shasta County Alternative Custody Program and Redding Police removed over 35,000 pounds of trash from homeless camps around town—bringing the year’s total to 430,000 pounds.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE crews responded to a commercial structure fire on the 16000 block of Clear Creek Road southwest of Redding on Thursday afternoon (three units were fully involved) and contained the flames by 2:22 p.m. (no injuries were reported) as the fire impacted about 5,000 feet of the building causing major damage while crews remained at the scene for mop-up and overhaul operations.  Action News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A candlelight vigil for Charlie Kirk was held yesterday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the South Parking Lot at Shasta College on Old Oregon Trail—following his fatal shooting last week at Utah Valley University.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The comedy show Golden Girls The Laughs Continue will be held on Nov. 9 at the Redding Civic Auditorium—Vince Kelley will star as Blanche Devereaux as the production will carry on the legacy of the iconic sitcom for fans 18 and older.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Pacheco School District in Redding fired a teacher after placing him on leave last week for a controversial social media post about Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in Utah—parents urged the board to act at a closed meeting.  Action News Now
  • The Shasta County Office of Education will hold an Open House on October 14 at 1644 Magnolia Ave. in Redding—visitors will join sessions from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., explore educational programs, tour a school bus, and try planetarium activities with light refreshments served in the Regional Occupational Program classroom.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Shasta County will host a free waste tire collection event on October 4 in Shasta Lake at the end of Shasta Gateway Drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—residents may bring up to nine tires without a letter and must obtain one for larger quantities. The county highlights that 11,115 tires have already been removed this year—demonstrating the event’s ongoing impact on health and safety.  Action News Now
  • Shasta-Trinity National Forest officials said that pre-planning and resource sharing helped control more than 100 fires ignited by tens of thousands of lightning strikes this summer. Only the Blue Fire near Seiad Valley — at 32% containment on 3,680 acres — remains a concern.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office in Red Bluff will hold a one-day hiring event on September 27th—aimed at filling growing vacancies. Action News Now reporter Margot Rowe reported the plan as part of ongoing efforts to boost staffing.  Action News Now
  • Parking at Redding Regional Airport is being relocated starting Tuesday, September 23 for repairs, and temporary lots are set for public, rental car, and employee parking—this change will last until October 20.  KRCR
