  • Dancing with the Shasta Stars returns to the Cascade Theater on Saturday, Oct. 18 as local dancers Eva Jimenez and Hagen Lebak told Daybreak they are dancing to raise funds for One Safe Place—a program that helps survivors of violence rebuild their lives.  KRCR

  • Luna's Fusion on Churn Creek Road in Redding closed yesterday due to ongoing parking lot, plumbing, and flooding issues—staff said they will work at Wafflebite and may bring back some favorite dishes on the menu.  KRCR
  • The Redding Chamber of Commerce welcomed My Place Hotel on Larkspur Lane yesterday—offering short and long-term stays with a kitchen in every room to boost local tourism and business travel.  Action News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • A Downtown Redding church will host a free screening of the Academy Award-winning film 'The Message—The Story Of Islam' at 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church on South and East Streets in Redding, followed by a Q&A session and dinner with requested donations.  KQMS
  • Oktoberfest will return to Turtle Bay Exploration Park on October 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. and will include live music, craft and root beers, traditional German food, and craft vendor activities including glassblowing and face painting—plus a raffle for Redding Garden of Lights tickets with proceeds supporting educational programs.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A teacher at Pacheco Junior High was terminated after the school board voted unanimously—responding to controversial social media posts that sparked public backlash. The district placed him on administrative leave the day his posts surfaced and the Sheriff's Office increased police presence at the school.  KRCR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anderson police now require every officer to wear bodycams in the field to support transparency and accountability—city council approved the $250,000 program after over a year of testing and planning and officers have been trained in camera operations and data storage.  KRCR
  • A controversial voting measure in Shasta advanced — bringing it one step closer to appearing on ballots.  Action News Now
  • On September 17th, crews from Caltrans District 2, Redding Fire Department, CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit and CHP participated in specialized training offered by AmeriGas Propane — using a trailer from Houston to show first responders how to handle crashes involving propane trailers.  Action News Now
  • Action News Now reporter Jesse Angelo reported that Save Shasta Elections was circulating a petition in Shasta County that called for elections to be held on a single day with in-person voting, hand-counted ballots by local volunteers, and voter ID checks—steps aimed at reforming the election process.  Action News Now
  • Caltrans District 2 will host a Sustainable Transportation Planning Grant Workshop on September 25 via Webex to explain how local agencies and governments can apply for up to $22 million in funds aimed at boosting transportation needs, equity, and the environment — previous projects include successful plans from Modoc and Plumas counties. Eligible groups include Metropolitan Planning Organizations, regional agencies, transit agencies, cities, counties, and Native American Tribal Governments.  Action News Now
  • A wall has been removed at the Shasta County Elections Office to boost transparency by creating a public lounge where ballots are visible during counting—an open house will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the office on Placer and Market Streets, and the department is recruiting poll workers and volunteers for November's special election.  KQMS
