COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redding’s City Fair will be held on October 11 at the Civic Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., featuring games, goats, candy, decorated trucks, and interactive electrification demos. The event will also include a Kars & K-9s Car Show in the auditorium parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (with a stunt bike lane and K9 demonstrations).  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Redding staff say tourism has grown since the pandemic—Danny Orloff explained that a shift from short-term rentals to hotels is boosting local shops, as the new My Place Hotel on Larkspur Lane has created 14 jobs and an Avid Hotel on Del Monte Street is set to open by spring.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shasta Smart Workforce Center will host a free job fair at Shasta College this Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Attendees will learn about job openings, resources, and services from various industries, with Kelly Frost answering questions about broadcasting.  KQMS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Redding’s fire season will last into autumn as warm, dry weather raises fire risk and thunderstorms may bring some rain later this week. Forecasters disagree on winter rain with NOAA predicting wetter conditions while Old Farmer’s Almanac expects a drier pattern — leaving uncertainty about December’s precipitation.  Record Searchlight

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tehama County Supervisor Pati Nolen will face a jury trial after the court denied her objections to the Grand Jury's accusations on Tuesday in Red Bluff. A pretrial conference is set for October 7 and the trial will begin on October 29 — the case is expected to cost the county a lot of money.  Action News Now
  • The Shasta Election Task Force submitted over 10,000 signatures to the County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Office on Tuesday morning to change the county voting process + the group explained the ballot measure during a gathering outside the office and plans to have it on the ballot by next June once the signatures are verified.  KRCR
  • Airports in Northern California were awarded $168.85 million from the federal AIP—Benton Field in Redding was allocated $170,306 for its design phase to reconstruct its taxi lane. Senators Padilla and Schiff said the funding will modernize facilities and create jobs.  Action News Now
  • Today, the Shasta County Elections Office in Redding removed a wall to improve transparency by allowing citizens a direct view of election activities from a new lounge area. The office invites the public to an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—and it is seeking poll, extra help, and volunteer workers for the November special election.  Action News Now
  • City officials in Redding announced that Hartnell Avenue between Churn Creek Road and Northwoods Way will have daytime traffic control starting tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. while a contractor repairs a sewer lateral and work is expected to be finished on September 26—motorists are advised to drive cautiously or avoid the area.  Action News Now
  • Shasta County now officially has its charter government after the required paperwork was filed. Local officials are addressing the delay— a survey is open to gather suggestions for changes to the charter.  KQMS

  • Two high school athletes were named Shasta Family YMCA Athletes of the Week for their strong performances from Sept. 7-14. Gunner Church from West Valley made key plays in a 38-14 football win—while Daelynn Callegari from Foothill led her volleyball team with standout efforts.  Record Searchlight
