- ➤ The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office will have more officers at Pacheco School as officials work to keep students safe after a staff member was put on leave for a social media post about Charlie Kirk—concerns about campus security led to the decision. Deputies will also attend the upcoming school board meeting to help maintain a secure environment. Action News Now
- ➤ Simpson University will welcome 390 new traditional undergraduate students this fall, marking its largest incoming class since 2003 and a 73 percent rise from the 2018—19 academic year. The university reports that traditional enrollment now stands at 766 and overall enrollment has surpassed 1,000 with Degree Completion, Graduate and Tozer Seminary programs. Action News Now

- ➤ Recent rains helped largely suppress several lightning-sparked fires; the Dillon Fire off Highway 96 is 78% contained at 11,972 acres, the Blue Fire south of Seiad Valley remains at 3,660 acres with containment dropping to 30%, and the Log Fire northwest of Sawyers Bar is 71% contained—while a mobile home burned up off Yollo Bollo Road near Ono around midday Sunday. - ➤ Shasta County updated its defensible space rules to require landowners in unincorporated areas to clear flammable vegetation; parcels smaller than two acres must be completely cleared and those between two and 10 acres must have a clearance of 30 feet—steps that may help prevent homeowners insurance cancellations. The ordinance is open for public comment and will be enforced by fire department inspectors with fines starting at $100, with full implementation planned by spring 2026. Record Searchlight

- ➤ Shasta College and Hill Country Community Clinic announced a new partnership today at the college’s Downtown Redding Health Sciences Center to offer dental hygiene students practical training (including hands-on experience) and to expand care for underserved patients.
