- ➤ PG&E crews are working to restore power to over 10,000 customers in Shasta County—6,002 in Happy Valley and 3,127 near Palo Cedro—with a separate unplanned outage affecting 482 customers in Tehama County. The crews are inspecting damaged power lines along main roads to safely restore power soon. Action News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The historic Greyhound Bus sign, saved when its station was torn down in 2013, was installed at the Redding Area Bus Authority Passenger Terminal and will be lit at 8 p.m. today during a ceremony hosted by local groups — a nod to the city's past. Record Searchlight
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Redding Regional Airport held a public meeting on Sept. 10 where officials explained plans for a 30 million dollar Runway Rehabilitation Project that will shut the main runway from Sept. 23 to Oct. 20, pausing commercial flights while the crosswind runway stays open except for six days from Oct. 6 to 11. - ➤ County officials discussed a charter error when District 1 Supervisor Crye blamed others for not filing the Measure D paperwork while CEO Rickert noted the documents were sent late to Sacramento—leaving Shasta County without charter status. Sheriff Johnson’s new Alternative Custody Program is moving ahead after the board approved a lease for 90 acres along Eastside Road and nonprofit Amity Foundation pitched a residential re-entry plan to serve low-level offenders. - ➤ Shasta County’s official charter status—approved by voters in March and scheduled to begin on Jan. 1—became official after missing paperwork was filed on Sept. 8, and county officials blamed each other for the delay while the board voted Tuesday to launch a public survey on possible charter changes with new ballot initiatives planned for no earlier than 2026.
