- ➤ First Five Shasta will host the annual Champions for Children party at Turtle Bay Exploration Park on Saturday from 10AM to 2PM, offering free hands-on activities for kids and resource information for parents + a chance to sign up for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. KQMS
- ➤ On Sept. 3, Les Schwab Tire Center staff packed thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies for local students in the annual Pack-a-Backpack drive in partnership with The Northstate's News—about 20 managers worked and over $15,000 in donations were collected for more supplies. KRCR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Redding police arrested Jesse Penta—who admitted to fatally shooting two people outside his home on Abernathy Lane—on September 3 and charged him with two counts of murder. Action News Now
- ➤ A judge denied a request to bar the public from the preliminary hearing for Tyler McCain, accused of murdering his wife Nikki McCain, which will take place today at the Shasta County Courthouse and also rejected a motion to disqualify his lawyer Michael Borges—ensuring the high-profile case remains open to media and community viewers. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Sept 3, Shasta College opened its remodeled library and tutoring center at the main campus, giving students more study spaces, a Starbucks and free tutoring funded by Measure H. The building now has new patios—landscaped neatly—and updated interiors to help students learn. KRCR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Blue Fire, located off Blue Walker Road near Seiad Valley, burned 1,630 acres as nearly 500 firefighters battled the blaze with high temperatures over 100°F, low humidity, and gusts up to 30 mph increasing the risk from thunder cells. Officials modified evacuation zones on Wednesday—six zones returned to normal while motorists are warned of possible closures on Highway 96 due to the fire. KRCR
