- ➤ Roger Schmidt appeared in Shasta County Superior Court on Thursday morning for his predisposition hearing — he was arrested in connection to the 1984 murder of Terry Arndt in Burney and charged with the sexual assault of a female victim. Action News Now
- ➤ A 39-year-old man with active warrants was captured Wednesday after a high speed chase by Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies—his car crashed into a ditch and caught fire before he fled on foot until a K9 chased him down, and a female passenger was not injured. KQMS

- ➤ A piece of Redding’s history was restored when McHale Sign Company reinstalled a 70-year-old Greyhound sign at the RABA station downtown—its electric hookup is scheduled for next month—and the project is part of a broader downtown revitalization that also features the Cascade Theater sign. KRCR

- ➤ PG&E used artificial intelligence and machine learning to help prevent wildfires when its chief meteorologist Scott Strenfel held a virtual media briefing on Aug. 28—he noted that the Fire Potential Index uses data from over 1,600 weather stations to flag above-normal fire risk in the service area for August and September.
