COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sizzle's Kitchen in Redding and Shasta College have teamed up to offer fall cooking classes—focusing on international cuisine, everyday meals and sausage making—to help local chefs and food enthusiasts gain practical skills. The program will feature sessions taught by Charity Abban-Saah and Donny Dichirico and offers a chance for hands-on learning in the culinary field.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A mountain climber fell at Mount Shasta on August 16 while hiking Clear Creek and suffered major injuries—CHP helicopter later found him wedged near a cliff and flew him to a hospital in Redding for life saving care amid harsh weather.  KRCR

CRIME NEWS

  • Roger Schmidt made his first court appearance in Redding, pleading not guilty to the 1984 murder of Terry Arndt in Burney—he was extradited from Arizona and is set to return to court on August 28.  Action News Now
  • Anderson Police are asking for public help to locate 37-year-old Hannah Chacon who was last seen on August 9 leaving an apartment complex on Highway 273 in Anderson; she wore a black pull-over sweater, olive green shorts, and tennis shoes.  Action News Now
  • Anderson police need help finding a missing woman—Hannah Chacon, 37, who was last seen leaving an apartment complex on Highway 273 on Aug. 9 at 8:30 a.m. while wearing a black pullover sweater, olive green shorts and tennis shoes.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The California Transportation Commission approved $3 billion in funds to boost highway safety and mobility, including projects such as the Brighter 273 Safety Project in Shasta County and roadway upgrades in Plumas, Shasta, Tehama, and Butte counties. The funding from Senate Bill 1 and the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will help the state meet its Build More, Faster — For All agenda.  KRCR
  • The Redding City Council will consider three ways to help the Redding Civic Auditorium — offering a $675,000 grant or loan for operation costs, deferring $5,000 monthly lease payments until January, or asking two council members to work with staff and Advance Redding on a new operations plan.  Action News Now
