CRIME NEWS

  • A man was sentenced to 26-years-to-life in prison after a Shasta County jury convicted him for assaulting a man in Redding when he attacked a parked car driver on July 27 after being refused help and having prior strikes—he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.  KQMS
  • A Cottonwood man, 46-year-old Joshus Allen Fitch, was stopped Friday night on Happy Valley Road when Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed signs of impairment and used Jed the K9—leading to a search that found over 2.5 pounds of meth, 5 ounces of cocaine, 75 oxycodone pills, two loaded handguns and $6,600—resulting in his arrest on multiple charges with bail set at $100,000.  KQMS
  • Heather Cameron vanished 13 years ago in Shasta County when she was seen heading to Keswick Dam with her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lusby—she made three 911 calls using his phone and her estranged husband reported her missing two weeks later, leaving the case unsolved.  Action News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local Shasta farms are adapting by using conservation easements and agritourism to keep their operations strong as costs rise and big farms expand. Bob Nash said his Nash Ranch secured a 96-acre easement—protecting the land from future development for new generations.  ShastaScout

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting next month, children in Shasta County can sign up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to receive a free book each month. The program—with support from First 5 Shasta and the Shasta Library Foundation—has distributed nearly 300 million books worldwide.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Redding is set to discuss creating downtown entertainment zones—authorized by Senate Bill 969—to allow people 21 and over to use open containers in public areas. Council member Tenessa Audette said community input and investor interest will shape the detailed safety and zoning plans for the project.  KRCR
  • PG&E—conducting gas main repairs—will affect traffic on Hilltop Drive from August 21 through September 19 between Palisades Avenue and Browning Street; work will occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday as the city advises motorists to avoid the area.  KRCR
