- ➤ The historic Redding Regatta returned on the Sacramento River on August 17 to boost water sports and community recreation. The event held boat races for crew boats and paddleboards and renewed a long cherished local tradition. Action News Now
- ➤ The Lake Redding Regatta returned over the weekend along the Sacramento River at Lake Redding Park, drawing hundreds of locals to watch boat races including crew boats and stand-up paddleboards. Co-director Danny Orloff said a historic sign on Diestelhorst Bridge inspired the event's revival from the 1930s (more than 50 competitors raced), and organizers plan a larger regatta next year. - ➤ Redding Police are searching for missing 12-year-old Nyselli Escamilla, who was last seen on the 1000 block of South Redding Street yesterday while wearing a black T-shirt, grey shorts, and no shoes—she is known to hide in bushes. KRCR
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County’s unemployment rate climbed to 5.9% in July, nearly half a point higher than June and one-third a point higher than last July, with the labor force growing by 1,700—losses in leisure and hospitality offset by gains in private education and health. KQMS
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cal Fire is burning along Dersch Road as part of a fuels reduction project to help prevent catastrophic fires. Crews will burn from Bear Creek to Franciscan Way on Monday and from Franciscan Way to Millville Plains Road on Tuesday plus a pilot car will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with drivers expecting a roughly 10 minute delay.
