- ➤ Haven Humane Society hosts its annual Zumba Bash today at Win River Resort and Casino in Redding + the event features a 'The Greatest Show' theme with $25 tickets at the door. Action News Now
- ➤ The Lake Redding Regatta takes place today from 5 PM to 9 PM on the Sacramento River—tickets cost $35—and continues tomorrow from 9 AM to 3 PM. Action News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Shasta County Office of Education is seeking volunteers for its new Reading Pals Program to offer one-on-one reading support at 11 schools in Redding and the Enterprise School Districts. Volunteers will work one to two hours each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and attend an orientation on August 25 or September 15—helping kids move closer to reading at grade level. KQMS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City Council will review a fee for medical help from Redding Fire Department at Tuesday’s meeting. The fee—set at $489 per call and applied retroactively from the start of the year—has billed $106,000 so far with only $10,000 collected and may be waived on a case-by-case basis. KQMS
- ➤ Southbound Churn Creek Road near Camino Court and Harpole Road is under traffic control due to AT&T manhole maintenance from August 14 through August 22; drivers are advised to proceed carefully during the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. work hours. KRCR
- ➤ Traffic control will be in effect at the Girvan Road and Platinum Way intersection in Redding as a contractor will begin trench work to install a new sewer lateral starting August 19 and ending August 29 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.—officials advise motorists to drive carefully and consider alternate routes. - ➤ PG&E projects a rate drop in 2026 after saving $2.5 billion through cost cuts and will confirm the exact percentage by the end of 2025. Senator Becker’s SB 254—approved by the Senate and under Assembly review—aims to lower bills by returning billions to customers through climate dividends and cost regulations. KRCR
