- ➤ Registrations for the 2025 Lake Redding Regatta have been extended until August 16 noon, and paddlers can sign up for races at Lake Redding Park on August 16 and 17. The event will feature divisions for kayak, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, tandem, and crew boats—live music, a pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, and wellness services will enhance this community celebration along the Sacramento River. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Three people were taken by ambulance after a crash on I-5 near Oasis Road Monday night when a black Honda sedan veered across all three lanes and flipped onto its side requiring rescue crews to extricate the occupants while the CHP blocked the fast and middle lanes for safety. KQMS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A fatal ATV crash occurred very early Sunday morning on Basler Road north of Highway 36 in Tehama County—alcohol is believed to have been involved—killing one passenger and injuring two others. KQMS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County Office of Education's Reading Pals program is seeking local volunteers to help students improve their reading skills after school by committing one or two hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Orientation sessions will be held on August 25 or September 15 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Professional Development Center in Redding, and last year's pilot helped 37 students with 17 volunteers. - ➤ The child custody trial between Sherri Papini and her ex-husband Keith Papini started Tuesday at Shasta County Superior Court in Redding. Papini sought reunification with one child and increased visitation with another—key points in a dispute that began nearly nine years ago. KRCR
- ➤ Redding Police Department Captain Brian Cole is training near his Bella Vista home for a 171 mile charity race—the Grand to Grand Ultra Stage Race set from September 21 to 27—to support three local nonprofits. He ran a 53 mile warm-up and is planning every detail to keep his gear light with only water and a tent provided by the race organizers. KRCR
- ➤ Redding officials announced that starting August 14 the northbound lane on South Market Street between Grange Street and Fell Street will have traffic controls from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for a sidewalk replacement project that will run until August 22—motorists should use alternate routes while emergency services retain access. - ➤ An ICE sub-field office has operated at 443 Redcliff Drive in Redding for over 10 years and a contract with the Redding Police supports Homeland Security Investigations. City officials say they know little about the facility, and records show ICE secured a $10 million bond loan+ high security fencing to support its operations. ShastaScout
