COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new women-owned kids' store called Ferris Wheel Kids opened Aug. 1st on Yuba Street in downtown Redding—selling clothes, books, and toys for ages newborn to 12 and offering an indoor play area. Founders Tara Faires and Suzanne Russell said they plan to host book signings, live music, and other events in the coming months to build a community hub.  KRCR
  • Redding Farmers Market will kick off National Farmers Market Week with a fundraiser behind City Hall tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to noon that features fresh produce, live music from Omnificent, a local chef's demonstration, and a dunk tank for $1 where participants can dunk local public figures — all proceeds will benefit Good News Rescue Mission.  KRCR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged a house and garage at a 2400 square foot home on Zola Drive in the Lakehead area early Thursday morning—firefighters arrived shortly after 2 a.m. and spent more than an hour trying to extinguish a stubborn attic blaze.  KQMS

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, Redding Police served search warrants at multiple residences—seizing over $465,000, 41 firearms, and processed cannabis linked to illegal marijuana cultivation and drug trafficking—and arrested Low Saechao while also investigating Taylor Walters for a separate indoor grow operation.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday morning, 3,535 lightning strikes sparked 23 new wildfires on National Forest lands in Northern California—additional strikes later ignited more fires including a 264-acre blaze near Etna in Klamath National Forest. Some fires from last weekend in Shasta-Trinity have mostly been controlled.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the California Department of Insurance completed a review of three wildfire catastrophe models to help stabilize rates and expand coverage for residents in wildfire-prone areas, and Mercury Insurance, Allstate + CSAA are among the first companies set to broaden their policies with more insurers expected to follow soon.  Action News Now
  • The Redding Police Community Work Program removed over 20,000 pounds of debris from homeless camps and nearby areas in the past two weeks using Shasta County Alternative Custody labor, with 4,500 pounds cleared Thursday alone and over 2,300 pounds taken from under the bridge on Westside.  KQMS
