ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A vegetation fire began Wednesday afternoon near Happy Valley when a tree struck by lightning smoldered and dropped embers—forcing evacuations to West Valley High School and destroying one outbuilding as crews battled 17 acres of spot fires. KQMS
- ➤ Doctors at Mercy Medical Center Redding warn that the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer—from Memorial Day to Labor Day—will see a sharp rise in teen crashes as impaired, distracted, and drowsy driving fuels about 400 trauma activations and one-third of teen driver deaths, according to AAA. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews reached 89% containment on the 19,022 acre Green Fire on the northeast edge of Lake Shasta. About 500 personnel are now working on suppression repair to restore the forest—evacuation orders are now warnings and the flight restriction has been lifted. KQMS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Motorists in Redding should expect delays at the intersection of Cypress Avenue and Hartnell Avenue as construction begins August 4 and continues until September 17. Work is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. + from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., and emergency vehicles will maintain access during the project. Action News Now
