CULTURE NEWS

  • Jason Soule, a new author who moved from Texas to Redding with his daughters, released his debut book 'Secrets of the Sofa' based on childhood memories and his best friends plus his background in education. The middle school adventure novel sold 200 copies shortly after its release at the Redding Library and the author is already working on a sequel.  KRCR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Nuts and Bolts of Construction summer camp returned in Redding and gave kids hands-on learning by making birdhouses, marshmallow guns and flashlights with electrical tape, batteries and light bulbs; staff from the Charles Candelaria Memorial Foundation, the Trade School at Shasta Builders' Exchange + Redding Recreation run the full camp with 15 participants that ends today.  KRCR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has changed evacuation orders to warnings for Zones HAP-7770, HAP-7650, HAP-7670 and HAP-7660 near the Shawn Fire close to Happy Valley—CAL FIRE said a lightning strike holdover started the fire that burned 16.9 acres, and crews are using hoses to slow its progress as road closures and a temporary collection point at West Valley High School remain in effect.  Action News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction will begin Monday on a nearly 2.5 million gallon water tank at the corner of Lake Boulevard and Kennet Road near Shasta Lake City. The project will use $6.3 million of Carr Fire recovery funds (with occasional detours up to 15 minutes) and will run weekdays until its completion in March next year.  KQMS
  • The Forks of Salmon Post Office reopened today—resuming retail and delivery services after mandatory evacuation orders due to a nearby wildfire were lifted.  Action News Now
