- ➤ A tentative agreement reached between UFCW 8-Golden State, UFCW Locals 5 and 648 and Albertsons Companies has averted a strike that threatened 25,000 workers at Safeway and Vons stores—promising wage increases, better health care, improved pensions, and stronger job protections after five months of intense negotiations. - ➤ Redding police arrested Jason Wiebusch—48-year-old parolee wanted for assault with a deadly weapon—after he stabbed a man just before 9 p.m. Sunday on Auditorium Drive near the Civic Auditorium and later found him near Lake Redding Park, booking him into Shasta County Jail while the victim received treatment for a non-life-threatening neck wound.
