BUSINESS NEWS

  • McConnell Foundation began improving the old Moores’ Flour Mill building after purchasing it years ago, and work now includes demolishing part of the structure, installing perimeter fencing, and painting the exterior for future food, drink and retail use. The foundation will keep the iconic name sign on the east side—plans for the building’s exact purpose are still being developed and the space will be available for lease soon.  ShastaScout

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Butler Fire in Six Rivers National Forest northeast of Orleans now covers 11,641 acres & is only 2% contained, with crews working along Salmon River Road as burning material rolls across the road and evacuations remain in place after a 300-acre spot fire started on Thursday. The 700-acre Summit Fire in the Marble Mountains has been defeated with 70% containment & now awaits final mop-up and monitoring.  KQMS
  • Officials at the Shasta County Air Quality Management District issued a smoke impact advisory on July 18 because wildfire smoke—from the Marble Complex, the Orleans Complex, and the Green Fire—moved through the county and affected air quality.  Action News Now
  • Residents in West Redding continue to wait for federal funds to clean up Carr Fire damage as its seventh anniversary nears. (The McConnell Foundation secured $8.7M in Phase 2 funding for hazardous fuel reduction in Trinity County and still awaits FEMA approval on projects in Shasta County.)  KRCR
  • On Friday the 17,606-acre Green Fire north of the Pit Arm of Lake Shasta was 17% contained with over 1,460 personnel working to build control lines along key areas — including Brock Mountain Road.  KQMS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eligible California homeowners whose homes were made uninhabitable by a declared disaster from January 2023 to January 2025 — including those affected by the Park Fire — can apply for disaster relief grants that cover up to three months of mortgage payments with a cap of $20,000. The program, managed by Cal HFA, also offers additional housing counseling support.  KRCR

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Redding’s 12U Little League Baseball Team is heading to the State Championship tournament in Petaluma, Sonoma County, starting today and will play through Friday, July 24. The team is asking the public for donations via GoFundMe to cover travel costs + lodging, gas, and meals as they prepare for the games.  KRCR
