ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A big rig crash caused heavy traffic on I-5 north of Redding near Bridge Bay Road at 2:45 a.m. on July 17—no one was injured and no other vehicles were involved, according to the California Highway Patrol.  Action News Now
  • A tractor-trailer tipped over very early Thursday morning on the Pit River Bridge over Lake Shasta and dumped its load of 20 foot long 8 inch diameter pipes, completely blocking the northbound lanes of I-5 and causing traffic backups until Caltrans and CHP could begin clearing the debris, with the driver not injured (2:44 a.m.).  KQMS

CRIME NEWS

  • Redding Police said a group of kids targeted a Hispanic resident on Traverse Street with racist slurs, doorbell ditching, vandalism, and throwing rocks & tortillas after a call at 2:30 a.m. Monday, and the juveniles may face hate crime charges.  KQMS
  • Anderson police are searching for 15-year-old Jayzen Barkley (6 ft tall, 150 lbs, brown hair and brown eyes) after his last known sightings on Shasta Dam Boulevard in Shasta Lake and Redding.  Action News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The 16509 acre Green Fire north of Pit Arm of Lake Shasta is 13% contained as over 1440 firefighters work along its north, northeast and east edges — one firefighter is at home recovering from a heat-related injury while another, struck by a tool, was briefly hospitalized.  KQMS
  • Crews are battling the Butler Fire in the Six Rivers National Forest where 9,936 acres have burned with 2% containment and evacuations remain at Butler Flats and Nordheimer—officials note most of the fire is burning inside the perimeter. The 700-acre Summit Fire in the Marble Mountains is 65% contained, and smaller fires burned 17 acres near Tehama County and 10.5 acres in West Cottonwood early Wednesday.  KQMS
  • Fire crews made progress on the Green Fire in Shasta County on July 17th — covering 15,931 acres with 13% containment — and one area remained under evacuation order while three areas stayed under warning as officials continue to monitor the situation.  Action News Now
