CAL FIRE crews responded to a structure fire that spread to nearby vegetation in Robinson Mill yesterday at 4:59 p.m.—firefighters found a large building fully involved in flames and used five engines, two crews, one dozer, two water tenders, two air tankers, and two Type One helicopters to drop retardant and slow the spread.

Shasta College received a $1.7M federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant on July 11 to help low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities stay in school.

The grant will support tutoring, counseling and mentoring over the next five years to boost retention and graduation rates.

On Friday, Shasta County officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for residents in zone LKH-1448-A as the Green Fire burned 8,395 acres west of Montgomery Creek under hot, dry conditions.
