COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents gathered at Red Bluff Municipal Airport to dedicate the T33 Shooting Star, a historic plane on display for years—airport manager Scott Miller and pilot Donna Harman said the ceremony honored local veterans and underscored the airport’s role in community history.  Action News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • CAL FIRE crews responded to a structure fire that spread to nearby vegetation in Robinson Mill yesterday at 4:59 p.m.—firefighters found a large building fully involved in flames and used five engines, two crews, one dozer, two water tenders, two air tankers, and two Type One helicopters to drop retardant and slow the spread.  Action News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Shasta College received a $1.7M federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant on July 11 to help low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities stay in school. The grant will support tutoring, counseling and mentoring over the next five years to boost retention and graduation rates.  A News Cafe

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Shasta County officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for residents in zone LKH-1448-A as the Green Fire burned 8,395 acres west of Montgomery Creek under hot, dry conditions. The US Forest Service said two Super Scooper aircraft will soon use Shasta Lake to help fight the blaze while 1,018 firefighters work the incident—smoke advisories remain in effect through today and near-100 degree temperatures are expected until July 14.  Action News Now
