COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Construction on the new Lake Almanor Community Hospital in Chester took a big step when its first steel beams were installed this past Tuesday morning—starting vertical work on the Acute Care Department that will provide urgent care when finished. - ➤ Authorities issued a Silver Alert for 89-year-old Judith Carpenter after she walked away from her home on Broadhurst Road off Bowman Road on Wednesday at 3 o’clock—she was wearing a blue flower patterned shirt and black pants—and she is believed to be on foot. KQMS
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shasta College is boosting its green efforts by expanding its composting program and solar power that now supplies nearly 80% of campus electricity. The initiative, started in January, diverts 635 cubic yards of waste into compost for the college farm—giving students a hands-on lesson in sustainability. Action News Now
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Butler Fire near Orleans has grown to 2,822 acres with no containment as firefighters use control lines from last year's Boise Fire to protect about 20 structures in Butler Flat. The Summit Fire, part of the Marble Complex along the Pacific Crest Trail, is at 529 acres with 13% containment, and a small fire off Chaparral Drive near Redding was held to 1–2 acres. KQMS
- ➤ Air quality officials in Shasta County advised residents to limit outdoor activities and keep windows & doors closed as wildfires cause rising smoke levels. They recommended people with health issues use air conditioners on recirculation mode and stay alert to shifting conditions. Action News Now
- ➤ Local officials issued a boater advisory for the Pit River Arm of Lake Shasta after a Green Fire was reported, and boaters are urged to stay alert until more hazard details are available — further updates are expected soon. Action News Now
- ➤ Northstate residents in Redding are urged to check their HVAC systems amid extreme heat and wildfire smoke — technicians from Shasta Heating and Air advise cleaning air filters and checking capacitors to keep indoor air clean and systems running well. KRCR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Shasta County Department of Public Works has issued a boil water notice for Castella due to a break in the main line to help prevent stomach or intestinal illness. Residents must boil tap water for one minute or use disinfecting bleach—alternative water treatment instructions will be provided until officials lift the notice. Action News Now
